Instagram for Education: Applying Gardner’s Intelligences
We were inspired by the blog post Using Instagram in an Educational Context, which cites Howard Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences. In this post, we’ve linked great examples from Instagram and its own blog to help describe these intelligences.
Spatial Intelligence Spatial intelligence is your ability to visualize a space with your mind’s eye to navigate, to view objects at different angles, and to recognize patterns or details. You can interpret the shape, size, and movement of things, and even envision things not immediately visible, like rearranging your living room or climbing a building.
Linguistic intelligence is your ability and ease with language to accomplish a goal. You can use written or spoken language to express yourself rhetorically, remember information, and learn languages; and you’re skilled at reading, writing, and storytelling.
Logical-mathematical intelligence is your ability to detect patterns, reason deductively, think logically, and understand systems. You can analyze problems logically, carry out math operations, and investigate issues with scientific methods.
Interpersonal intelligence is your ability to understand others’ moods, feelings, temperaments, intentions, and motivations. You can communicate effectively and empathize easily with others, learn and work well in a group, and enjoy discussing with others.
Intrapersonal intelligence is your ability to understand yourself, your feelings, your fears, and your motivations. You know your strengths and weaknesses, your uniqueness, and are able able to predict your reactions. You have a working model of yourself and use it to regulate your life.
