MOOCing in Hawaii: Dr. Melissa Kaulbach Chosen as Guest Speaker
Academic Partnerships’ Dr. Melissa Kaulbach will be a featured guest speaker for the Hawaii-based Leeward Community College MOOC How to Teach Online from September 2 – October 13, 2013. This 5-week MOOC is an open access course—no fees are required to join and participate. Each week, the MOOC will feature a variety of synchronous sessions with experts from the field of online teaching and learning. Participants have the opportunity to earn a badge and letter of completion.
Dr. Kaulbach has been selected because of her extensive experience in teaching and learning, in particular for her role as co-host of Ed Tech Du Jour, an online professional development web series from Academic Partnerships. Dr. Kaulbach’s sessions in the MOOC will occur on
- Tuesday, September 17 at 7:00PM – 8:00PM CST during week two, Ensuring Student Success in the Online Learning Environment.
- Monday, September 23 at 7:00PM – 8:00PM CST during week three, Create Community: Connect Learners with Each Other.

Dr. Kaulbach is Academic Partnerships’ Sr. Director of Academic Services and serves as faculty at Sarasota University. She conducts faculty workshops for professional development on topics that include online pedagogy, instructional design, student engagement, and educational technology. Dr. Kaulbach has been in the education industry for twenty-four years. She has presented at numerous conferences and has served on university-wide committees. Dr. Kaulbach served as the chair for the 2012 Academic Partnerships Online Research Grant Program. Dr. Kaulbach earned her BA in elementary education and music, her MAED in instructional leadership, and her EdD in educational leadership.
