Quality Matters Standard 3: A Review

QMOver the next two weeks, we will be going over each Quality Matters Standard and pointing you towards suggested Faculty eCommons resources that apply to each standard. Today, we will continue with Quality Matters Standard 3.

QM Standard 3

Assessment strategies are designed to evaluate student progress by reference to stated learning objectives; to measure the effectiveness of student learning; and to be integral to the learning process.


Suggested Faculty eCommons Resources

Standard 3.1

The types of assessments selected measure the stated learning objectives and are consistent with course activities and resources.


Standard 3.2

The course grading policy is stated clearly.


Standard 3.3

Specific and descriptive criteria are provided for the evaluation of students’ work and participation, for example grading rubrics.

Standard 3.4

The assessment instruments selected are sequenced, varied, and appropriate to the student work being assessed.


Standard 3.5

Students have multiple opportunities to measure their own learning progress.
